SUMMARY:Sunjay
DESCRIPTION:Sunjay is the antithesis of your typical denim clad disheveled folk and blues musician. From his perfectly groomed hair to his spotlessly shining winkle picker boots he walks onto the stage every inch the “city slicker.” When Sunjay starts to sing and play the guitar however\, you are transported to a world where blues and country music meld seamlessly amidst humid mangrove swamps and red neck barbecues. Sunjay is\, without doubt\, the real deal. \nDrawing from a rich\, musical\, and cultural background it is hardly surprising that Sunjay has quickly become recognised as one of the UK’s rising stars. His performances have been described as “mature and confident\,” while his guitar playing has been hailed as\, “superb\, brilliant\, experienced\, intricate amd faultless.” Sunjay’s style has that natural drift between folk and blues.

SUMMARY:Stitch in Time
DESCRIPTION:Featuring the lost knitting songs of WWI and WWII \nExcitement! Drama! Romance! And… knitting? \nA scintillating afternoon or evening of the lost knitting songs of the First and Second World Wars from Canada\, Britain\, America and France. \nDuring the two World Wars\, millions of women knitted for the soldiers and popular music often reflected the trends of the time: mere days after the first bullet was fired\, dozens of knitting-themed songs started to appear. \nAfter the wars these songs were essentially lost\, and the premiere of this concert was the first time many of them had been performed in over 100 years. Some of the songs were very close to disappearing forever\, and with Stitch in Time this music – a clever\, sweet\, entertaining footnote in history – has been preserved and given a chance to live again. \nMusic historian and opera singer Melanie Gall spent over a decade collecting more than 100 knitting songs from the British Library and private collections all over the world. The show has been featured nationally in the Guardian. \nStitch in Time is a quirky and fun show for all ages; a mix of cabaret\, history\, and interactive experience. \nFeel free to bring your knitting (or crochet) and stitch along to these funny\, poignant\, toe-tapping\, needle-clicking tunes. Come out and have a ball! \n★★★★★ “A great warmth and sense of humour … a wonderful voice” – Southside Advertiser\n★★★★★ “Hilarious knitting songs and the most amazing voice I’ve ever heard” – Ignite 107\n“Gall’s gorgeous voice wraps around you like a cozy afghan” – Edmonton Journal\n“Gall’s voice is the star of the show” – CBC Winnipeg \nDuration: approximately 2 hours including an interval\nRecommended age : 10+ \nWednesday 6 May 2026 : 7.30pm\nThursday 7 May 2026 : 2.30pm \nTickets : £15.00\nAvailable from https://swallowtheatre.co.uk\nor telephone 01988 850368 \nThe Swallow Theatre\nMoss Park\nRavenstone\nWhithorn\nDG8 8DR

SUMMARY:Brooks Williams
DESCRIPTION:Effortlessly sliding between country\, blues and folk. \nBrooks Williams is one of those select few “how on earth does he do it?” artists. He can sing. He can write. And\, man oh man\, can he play guitar. \nCambridge UK-based\, Statesboro\, Georgia US-born\, admired by both listeners and fellow musicians\, Brooks Williams has been a leading light on the acoustic music scene for three decades. FATEA says his performances show “the greatest level of true expertise.” \nListed as one of the ‘Top 100 Acoustic Guitarists\,’ his guitar skills are evident as he effortlessly slides in and out of folk\, blues and country. “He was playing Americana before it had been given the name\,” says CMP . “How soulful a solo guitarist can be when he has talent\, taste and astonishing technique\,” writes Blues Revue. \nWilliams left his Georgia home in his late teens and moved to Boston at the height of the 1990s acoustic music renaissance. He did his apprenticeship in the bars and clubs in New York and New England and cut his teeth supporting artists like Shawn Colvin\, Chris Smither\, Rory Block\, Leo Kottke\, Odetta\, Billy Bragg and Taj Mahal. \nHis first album\, North From Statesboro\, caught the attention of The Washington Post and National Public Radio\, which set the ball rolling and Williams never looked back. People took notice and acoustic music radio played him from the very beginning\, including WUMB-FM in Boston\, where Williams is one of their Top 100 Artists Of All-Time. \nIn subsequent years he has released a staggering 34 recordings in 35 years for labels like Green Linnet Records\, Solid Air Records\, Signature Sounds and Reveal\, including Diamond Days\, his latest\, which At The Barrier calls a “stunning collection from the chocolate-voiced\, guitar maestro.” \nNever one to shy away from the road\, the list of venues and festivals Brooks Williams has played is staggering. Newport\, Winnipeg\, Cropredy\, Cambridge\, Philadelphia\, are but a few of many. \nWe are delighted to welcome Brooks back to The Swallow Theatre. He last performed here solo in 2019. Alongside his solo shows\, Brooks Williams regularly performs with a host of fellow-musicians\, and his performances at The Swallow Theatre in 2022 and 2023 with top banjo player Dan Walsh are still talked about by audiences. \n“It is pure talent\, hard work and relentless touring which has brought him to the pinnacle of his career.” – Blues In Britain \nDuration: approximately 110 minutes including an interval. \nRecommended age : suitable for all \nWednesday 30 April 2026 : 7.30pm \nTickets : £18.50\nAvailable from https://swallowtheatre.co.uk\nor telephone 01988 850368 \nThe Swallow Theatre\nMoss Park\nRavenstone\nWhithorn\nDG8 8DR

SUMMARY:Appraisal
DESCRIPTION:An annual work review that goes horribly wrong \nTim Marriott (BBC TV’s ‘The Brittas Empire) returns to The Swallow Theatre after the success of ‘Watson: The Final Problem’ and ‘Jack’s Ashes’\, in a two-hander play performed with Angela Bull (Coronation Street\, DI Ray). \nHead of Department Nicky wants to get on with her job\, but her boss Jo has other ideas. He has a plan and thinks she is going to like it…\n\nAppraisal is a critically acclaimed dark comedy that has wowed audiences across the globe with a sharp\, witty and hilariously twisted tale. \nWritten by Tim Marriott\, Appraisal is a masterclass in subtext\, manipulation\, and unexpected humour. \nWhat seems like an ordinary work review quickly turns into a comical yet chilling power struggle. Nicky is just trying to get through the meeting\, but her boss\, Jo\, has something far more sinister — and ridiculous — up his sleeve. The situation spirals into an absurdly tense showdown that’s as funny as it is unnerving. \nHaving wowed audiences with sold-out performances at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe\, Adelaide Fringe\, and New York\, this two-hander play has scooped up awards including Best Actor and Best Actress at the Edinburgh Fringe DarkChat Awards\, along with Best Theatre Award at Adelaide Festival. \nAppraisal combines razor-sharp dialogue with dark\, biting comedy that keeps audiences hooked from start to finish. \nPerformed by Tim Marriott and Angela Bull\nWritten and directed by Tim Marriott\nProduced by Smokescreen Productions \n★★★★ “A classically structured two-hander that captures the unjustifiable\, often unaccountable\, behaviour enabled by office hierarchies that wouldn’t be tolerated anywhere else” – The Scotsman\n★★★★ “Very funny\, with some wonderful linguistic thrusting and parrying – Scottish Field\n★★★★ “A masterclass in gas-lighting & a masterpiece of manipulation” – Everything Theatre\n★★★★★ “A battle of wits\, tight\, well-paced and engrossing” – Reviews Hub\n★★★★★ “A terrific play\, disturbingly realistic” – GlamAdelaide\n★★★★★ “Intelligent & incisive… utterly captivating” – StageWhispers \nDuration: approximately 60 minutes\nRecommended age : 12+ \nFriday 17 April 2026 : 7.30pm\nSaturday 18 April 2026 : 7.30pm\nSunday 19 April 2026 : 2.30pm \nTickets : £16.00\nAvailable from https://swallowtheatre.co.uk\nor telephone 01988 850368 \nThe Swallow Theatre\nMoss Park\nRavenstone\nWhithorn\nDG8 8DR

SUMMARY:One Man Poe: The Black Cat & The Raven
DESCRIPTION:After last year’s sell-out shows\, award-winning actor Stephen Smith of Threedumb Theatre returns to The Swallow Theatre with two different Edgar Allan Poe stories. \nImmerse yourself in two macabre classics: one actor\, using the original texts from the 1840s\, brings Edgar Allan Poe’s words to life like never before. \nArguably Poe’s darkest tale\, The Black Cat documents an alcoholic’s last confession on the eve of his death. A story not for the faint-hearted. \nThen\, the poem that made Poe famous: The Raven. In the midnight hour\, as an elderly man laments the loss of his love\, an ominous visitor is heard tapping on his chamber door. \nEdgar Allan Poe (1809-1849) was an American writer\, poet\, critic and editor best known for evocative short stories and poems that captured the imagination and interest of readers around the world. His imaginative storytelling and tales of mystery and horror gave birth to the modern detective story. \nOne Man Poe won The Derek Award for Best Overall Show of Edinburgh Fringe 2025. \n★★★★★ “Edgar Allan Poe himself would love this powerful performance” – The Derek Awards\n★★★★★ “A captivating night of terror\, guilt\, grief and murder most foul” – Broadway Baby\n★★★★★ “Perhaps the definitive Fringe interpretation of these already much-loved works” – The Wee Review\n★★★★★ “An incredibly gripping and enthralling evening” – North West End\n★★★★★ “Superlative performance… Quite literally took my breath away” – Everything Theatre\n★★★★★ “The passion and understanding of how horror can captivate an audience are beautifully composed by Smith” – My Theatre Mates\n★★★★★ “Could not have been more wowed by this ‘marathon of the macabre'” The National Scot \nDuration: approximately 55 minutes.\nAfter the performance ticketholders are invited to join an optional Q&A with Stephen Smith in the bar.\nRecommended age : 12+ \nSaturday 21 March 2026 : 7.30pm\nSunday 22 March 2026 : 2.30pm\nSunday 22 March 2026 : 7.30pm \nTickets : £15.00\nAvailable from https://swallowtheatre.co.uk\nor telephone 01988 850368 \nThe Swallow Theatre\nMoss Park\nRavenstone\nWhithorn\nDG8 8DR
