SUMMARY:Fibonacci Quartet
DESCRIPTION:The Fibonacci Quartet are one of Europe’s leading string quartets and are prolific prize winners in both the UK and abroad. \nAs the only ensemble to ever win both First and Audience prizes at the Premio Paolo Borciani International String Quartet Competition in Italy (2024)\, the Fibonacci Quartet are one of Europe’s leading young string quartets. Originally formed at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London\, the Fibonaccis are a Resident Ensemble at the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía in Madrid with Günter Pichler and at the Dutch String Quartet Academy in Amsterdam. Following public finals at Wigmore Hall last May\, they were selected to join the Young Classical Artist Trust (YCAT) roster. \nDuring the 2024/25 season the Quartet has performed extensively throughout Europe\, including concerts in the UK\, Italy\, Germany\, the Netherlands\, Belgium\, Switzerland\, Spain and France. They have undertaken residencies with ProQuartet in Paris and Britten Pears Arts in Aldeburgh\, as well teaching and performing at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff in their position as Resident Quartet. \nThe Fibonacci Quartet are prolific prize winners and have received numerous awards including First Prize in the Royal Overseas League Chamber Music Competition\, First Prize in the Cavatina Chamber Music Competition\, The RPS Henderson Chamber Ensemble Award\, First Prize in the International Triomphe de l’Art Competition in Belgium\, The Kirckman Society Award\, Audience Prize at the Schiermonnikoog Festival and Special Prizes of the Shostakovich Association in Paris and Peermusic in Hamburg. \nAdditionally\, the Quartet regularly give radio and television broadcasts including on Dutch National Television\, Dutch Concert Radio\, BBC Radio 3 and RAI tv\, Italy. They were honoured to work closely with Kaija Saariaho on a new recording of ‘Terra Memoria’ made at the Barbican as part of the BBC Total Immersion series. \nIn March 2025 the Royal Academy of Music awarded the Fibonacci Quartet its Nina Drucker Quartet Fellowship for 2025/26\, designed to enable talented string quartets to rehearse intensively and launch their career. The Nina Drucker Quartet Fellowship is named in memory of Nina Drucker\, who was a Junior Academy piano student from 1945-1951 and left a generous gift to the Academy in her Will. \nThe Fibonacci Quartet are generously supported by the Escuela Reina Sofía\, the Hattori Foundation\, Fondation Biermans-Lapôtre in Paris and Talent Unlimited. SUMMARY:Anne Chaurand (guitar) and Rebecca Carson (flute)
DESCRIPTION:After attending Wells Cathedral School as a scholar\, Rebecca Carson completed her Bachelor’s Degree at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama where she won 1st prize in the needle makers competition\, followed by completing her Masters Degree at the Royal Academy of Music. \nRebecca has played as principal flute\, sub principal flute and principal piccolo with many of the UK’s leading orchestras including the BBC symphony\, Bournemouth Symphony\, Royal Philharmonic\, English National Ballet\, and various others. Being a successful and amiable flute player\, Rebecca finds work wherever she goes and post lockdown decided to change direction and took the position as woodwind instructor for the Dumfries and Galloway music service. Now Rebecca mainly focuses on teaching\, chamber music and solo work. \nAside from all her musical endeavours\, Rebecca has just completed a Diploma in Pearls awarded by the Gemmology Institute of America. With her creative flare and eye for detail Rebecca is putting together a Pearl stringing business which will be launched this Summer. She learnt Pearl stringing with Maria Schiavi\, one of the last remaining leading Pearl stringers in the UK. \nIn her free time Rebecca is a keen mountain biker and can often be found racing around the bike trails at Kirroughtree national park\, accompanied by her dog\, Bobbie \nFrench born guitarist Anne Chaurand has a long established reputation as an exciting solo and chamber music performer. \nAfter graduating both from the RSAMD in Glasgow and the Sorbonne in Paris\, she developed her own style of playing and musicianship abroad with Spanish and Cuban Maestros Pepe Romero and Leo Brouwer\, with whom she also studied composition. \nFor over forty years\, she has performed as a soloist throughout Scotland as well as in France\, Germany\, Spain\, North Africa\, Cuba and Russia. She remained based in Scotland\, where she has been in demand as classical guitar teacher and lecturer. \nAn eclectic musician\, she is equally passionate about contemporary and traditional music as well as the classical repertoire. She has commissioned\, premiered and recorded several pieces by major composers such as E. McGuire\, J. Maxwell Geddes. \nAs an ensemble musician she toured with mezzo soprano Sandra Porter\, and in a variety of small ensembles. She was one of the founder members of Soundstrata\, a contemporary music ensemble led by Janet Beat.
