SUMMARY:Shambellie House Ghost Hunt
DESCRIPTION:A Good Old-Fashioned Ghost Hunt… at Shambellie House \nPresented by Mostly Ghostly\, in partnership with Shambellie House Trust \nThe Ghost Hunt is Afoot! \nAn interactive\, investigation-led evening inside one of Dumfries and Galloway’s most atmospheric historic houses — where every room holds a story. \nThis May\, Mostly Ghostly invites you to explore Shambellie House after hours — a rare opportunity to take part in the first ever public paranormal investigation inside this striking Scottish Baronial mansion. \nBuilt in the 1850s for the Stewart family\, Shambellie House stands among woodland just outside New Abbey. Later becoming Scotland’s National Museum of Costume\, its historic interiors and distinctive character make for a particularly atmospheric setting once evening falls. \nLike many grand houses of its kind\, Shambellie has gathered its share of stories and curious experiences. Visitors have spoken of an unsettling sense of presence within the house\, while local folklore tells of a mysterious Grey Lady seen emerging from woodland near the driveway. Earlier descriptions of life at Shambellie remarked upon its turreted\, gothic character\, while one former resident recalled unexplained creaks\, bumps\, and even a strange slithering sound from the upper floors — never fully identified. \nOver the course of the evening\, guests will take part in small-group sessions using traditional ghost-hunting techniques — including dowsing rods\, pendulums\, mirror work\, trigger objects\, and basic audio recording — all grounded in carefully researched history and local folklore. \nWith limited places available\, this is an opportunity to experience Shambellie House in a very different light. \nA good old-fashioned ghost hunt — in every sense. \nBOOKING ESSENTIAL \nTicket admits one guest over the age of 16 (16 and 17 year olds must be accompanied by a responsible adult) \nTicket price – £65

SUMMARY:Welcoming Spring: Through folklore\, foraging and art
DESCRIPTION:Join artist and forager Freya Skinner for a nourishing day of connection with the natural world\, celebrating the arrival of spring through plants\, stories\, and creativity. Rooted in seasonal foraging traditions and Scottish folklore\, this gentle\, immersive workshop invites you to slow down\, learn\, and create in the landscape. \nThe day begins with a short\, guided foraging walk\, exploring seasonal plants and the stories\, symbolism\, and traditional uses woven around them. You’ll then return to the house and enjoy a herb tea blended from ingredients inspired by the foraging walk. \nFollowing a break for lunch we’ll settle into the afternoon for a relaxed\, guided folk-art painting session\, creating your own symbolic wooden wheel inspired by spring\, renewal\, and the turning year. \nNo previous foraging or art experience is needed\, just curiosity and a willingness to explore. \nPlease note: \nThe day includes a slow\, guided outdoor walk on natural ground. Paths may be uneven\, muddy\, or grassy depending on weather conditions. \nThe foraging walk will be gentle and unhurried\, with frequent stops for learning\, rest\, and discussion. \nMaterials will be provided\, including paints and brushes. Please let us know if you have sensory sensitivitiesor allergies we should be aware of. \nA light lunch is included in the workshop price.
