SUMMARY:Illyria presents The Three Musketeers
DESCRIPTION:All for One – and One for All!  Alexandre Dumas wrote five Musketeers novels\, the first appearing in 1844. \nThey have enjoyed enormous popularity worldwide and are not just textbook examples of the Historical Romance but also hilarious pastiches of that genre. \nThe first remains the greatest. \nYoung D’Artagnan is desperate to join Athos\, Porthos and Aramis as an elite Musketeer of the King’s Guard. \nTo prove himself he plunges headlong into a thrilling adventure to retrieve the Queen’s jewels\, race the clock to restore Her Majesty’s honour\, survive the machinations of scheming Cardinal Richelieu\, and cross swords with the deadly Milady de Winter. \nSet against a sweeping panorama of 17th century France at war\, it’s a whirlwind of excitement\, comedy and ingenious storytelling. \nRomance! \nIntrigue! \nMurder! \nBetrayal! \nRevenge…!  It’s got the lot! \nWith a reputation for the finest swordplay in the business Illyria promises more dazzling swashbuckling than ever!

SUMMARY:The Toasters - 45 Years of Ska
DESCRIPTION:New York City ska legends The Toasters bring their world tour to Dumfries this September! \nNew York City’s pioneering SKA band The Toasters are going strong 45 years later\, with a series of tours spanning North America to Europe in 2026. They are set to bring their sound to various cities as part of their 45 Years in SKA Tour\, delivering the high-energy\, brass-driven sound that has made them legends of the genre. \n“When the world gets turned upside down\, when loyalties realign\, when everyone expects conformity: Don’t let the bastards grind you down. The Toasters\, New York City’s seminal ska band\, have lived by this maxim since their founding in 1981 by sole constant Robert “Bucket” Hingley – even if those words waited until 1997 to appear (in the classic bastardized Latin) on a Toasters album of the same name. \nFormed in an older\, grittier NYC\, The Toasters lit the fuse on the American ska explosion — the U.S. crest of ska’s second\, U.K.-bred wave\, following the genre’s birth a generation earlier in Jamaica. At the center of it all was Bucket\, a British expatriate working at the Forbidden Planet comic bookstore who simply missed the 2 Tone ska sounds of his homeland. With little scene to speak of\, he did what any self-respecting rude boy would do — he started his own band and he hasn’t stopped\, wave or no wave. \n“Whether or not the mainstream media is paying attention to the genre is no real barometer about how well it’s doing\,” Bucket tells Pure Honey. “And this ‘wave’ theory of ska is just a nuisance because it’s just one wave that started in 1955\, depending on who you listen to\, right?” \nThe Toasters’ early days were pure DIY hustle. Unable to find a label interested in their supercollider of ska\, punk\, reggae and New Wave\, Bucket founded Moon Ska Records in 1983. Moon Ska would go on to become the Toasters’ home and the epicenter of ska in the U.S.\, launching dozens of bands. The label folded in 2000 but The Toasters have racked up over 6\,000 live shows as new recordings became distant images in the rearview. \nBucket sees more value in touring\, the part he considers the most fun. “You have to be a little bit crazy\, I suppose\, but that works because I’m crazy as shit. I prefer to buy air tickets and go around the world and play shows\,” he says. “That’s a much better delivery of the product right now.” \n– Abel Folgar for Pure Honey Magazine

SUMMARY:The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain
DESCRIPTION:2025 marked the 40th anniversary of The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain\, who\, from their humble beginnings in small rooms above old pubs\, took the world by storm with their off-beat humour and four-stringed virtuosity. \nFormed in 1985 as the antidote to the ego-driven bluster of the music industry\, ‘The Ukes’ soon became the unlikely superheroes of the international touring circuit\, spreading their irrepressible magic from Australasia to the North Pole\, Windsor Castle to Carnegie Hall. \nMillions of plucks later\, they are still thrilling audiences with their all-singing\, all-strumming\, full throttle\, foot-stomping concerts. \nThere are no drums\, pianos\, backing tracks\, guitars or banjos\, no pitch shifters or electronic trickery – just the astonishing revelation afforded by the rich orchestration of differently tuned ukuleles and dynamic vocals. \nThis is an orchestra like no other. \nThese are the sultans of ping! \nBuckle up for a helter-skelter ride through every kind of musical genre with plenty of laughs along the way. \nThere is something for everyone in this unique programme of Classical\, Pop\, Punk\, Funk\, Disco\, Bluegrass and Metal. \nNobody does it quite like The Ukes.“The best musical entertainment in the country”The Independent

SUMMARY:Celtic Da’s
DESCRIPTION:The Hilarious new play from Phil Differ featuring Bruce Morton and Raymond Mearns\nPat and Danny are two Celtic supporting childhood pals now in their early seventies\, older men who view life through a green and white prism.\nThey live in the past\, they resent everyone under thirty and manage to find negatives in everything their team achieves.\nThey are what’s disparagingly known as Celtic Da’s.\nA recent health scare results in Pat experiencing a lapse in his football fanaticism and a stark re-evaluation of a lifetime spent as a Celtic fan.\nA confused Danny cannot understand his pal’s sudden mood swing and gradually their long-standing match day routine becomes the backdrop to a darkly comedic discourse where they both come to question their Celtic-mindedness\, their politics\, their hopes\, dreams\, fears\, values and above all else\, their evolution from young and gallus into Celtic Da’s.

SUMMARY:TASDAG - Rodin: the Flight of the Soul
DESCRIPTION:Auguste Rodin (1840-1917) represents the end of a sculptural tradition that goes back to Michelangelo\, and ultimately to the ancient Greeks. \nPrimarily a modeller\, he completely revived sculpture from a period of relative stagnation and made it again a vehicle for intense personal expression\, bringing a new and often erotic sensibility to bear on it. \nRodin sought to express\, in an age not so dissimilar to our own\, the anguish and ecstasy of the human soul as expressed through the movements of the human body-an ambition worthy of Michelangelo. \nIn doing so he created an art that addresses itself directly to our own bodies and imaginations and created a challenge that was answered by many of the greatest painters and sculptors of modern times. \nThis lecture will explore his work as a struggle between the immediacy of the physical and a deep yearning for spiritual resolution. \nMichael Howardis a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts\, and teaches at the Manchester School of Art. \nHe has published widely on European art of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries\, his books include:L. \nS. \nLowry: A Visionary Artist; The Impressionists by Themselves; The Stations of the Cross / The Captive Figureand the award-winning dramatic interpretation and publication of material originally performed by the Zurich-based Dadaists of 1916. \nA New Order: An Evening at the Cabaret Voltaire. \nHis book on Gauguin\, was written in association with the Gauguin Museum\, Tahiti\, and his book on Monet for the Muse Marmottan\, Paris. \nGuests are warmly welcomed at lectures\, in person or online. \nGuest tickets are 10 and are available on the door\, on theTASDAGwebsite or atMidsteeple Box Office.
