Kirkcudbright and the Isle of Man

Over the last decade Manx National Heritage has digitalised newspapers from 1790s to the 1950s. Edmund Southworth, former Director of Manx National Heritage, discusses how the newspaper archive reveals new insights into connections between Kirkcudbright, Galloway, and the Isle of Man. With over 5,000 references to Kirkcudbright—mainly on maritime trade—the archive also includes everyday events, both humorous and tragic, often overlooked by traditional history books.
